Monongalia County — At the Nov. 26 meeting, commissioners used their reports to highlight community holiday support efforts and public‑service events.
Commissioner Tom said community donation levels have been "extreme" and announced weekly food distributions to address food insecurity, noting contributions from residents with ties to Monongalia County abroad. "I wanna wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving, and I just wanna explain how great this community is with the food insecurity," Tom said, and added that the county would be announcing weekend distribution dates.
The commission also acknowledged a press release from the Monongalia County Health Department announcing Healthy Smiles Day (an on‑the‑day dental/health event running approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Staff agreed to share the event information with the public.
Separately, staff reported a gubernatorial proclamation by Governor Morrissey that allowed a half‑day for state employees and provided counties the option to do the same; Monongalia County staff said the county offices would close at 12:30 p.m. for the holiday.
No formal actions were recorded specifically for the food distribution program during the meeting; commissioners used their report time to raise awareness and thank volunteers and donors. The meeting concluded with holiday well‑wishes and adjournment.
