Brighton City Council authorized design and construction engineering services for the 7th Street Road Rehabilitation on Nov. 25, approving a proposal from Hubbell, Roth & Clark Inc. not to exceed $288,970.
DPS staff said 7th Street requires substantial work including replacing approximately 1,400–1,500 feet of 12‑inch water main and bringing sidewalks and ADA ramps into compliance. Director Gotsch said the street had been discussed with the school district and that a $200,000 sidewalk grant helped make the project viable. "It was gonna just be for sidewalks and ADA ramps... but this really is the 7th Street is pretty much shot," Gotsch said, explaining the need to address waterlines and ADA ramps together.
Councilman Albert offered and the council adopted an amendment allocating specific shares of the engineering cost to street and utility funds and included necessary budget amendments. The motion, as amended and seconded, passed on a voice vote.
Next steps: staff will work with the consultant to complete design, secure necessary permits (including Eagle system approvals) and bring contract/bid documents back to council for construction authorization and timing coordination with the school district.
