The Jasper City Planning Commission on Nov. 25 recommended City Council approval of a special‑use permit for a small manufacturing and millwork business at 279 Confederate Avenue.
Applicant Ayanne Korme said the business, operating as TrueCraft, will produce high‑end millwork for hospitality and commercial clients and emphasized the use of natural materials. "We're using all the natural stuff to just make this new work stuff in a life," Korme said, describing boutique production rather than bulk manufacturing.
Planning staff described the site context in the Mountain City Business Park, noted similar industrial and warehousing uses nearby, and recommended approval with conditions designed to limit fumes, noise and visual impacts. Staff explicitly stated the applicant is not proposing staining or chemical finishing on-site at this time and that a paint booth that had briefly been delivered was removed after staff received photo confirmation from the applicant. Staff also confirmed the parcel has an active water meter, which allows the use to move forward despite a temporary suspension on new water and sewer connections.
A neighboring property owner, David Shouse, raised concerns that recent tractor‑trailer staging and loading activities in the cul‑de‑sac are blocking driveways and that larger tenants in the center could create future parking and access problems. The applicant responded that TrueCraft expects only box‑truck deliveries and that the building has a rear loading dock, and said the business will follow staff conditions and not block access.
A commissioner moved and the commission voted to recommend approval of the special‑use permit subject to the six conditions listed by staff; the recommendation will proceed to the city council for final action.
