The United Nations told reporters that hostilities in parts of the Gaza Strip continue to impede humanitarian operations, with eight humanitarian movements reported inside Gaza yesterday of which "one movement was facilitated" and seven were "impeded, denied, or canceled."
Spokesperson said the UN and partners managed to collect "more than 200 pallets of medicines and 5 tankers of fuel" at crossings, and brought additional tents into Gaza. The briefing stressed that every delivery makes a significant difference but that restrictions and security conditions continue to block or delay life-saving supplies.
On health systems, the spokesperson said "not a single hospital in Gaza is fully functional" and that "only 18 out of 36 hospitals are partially operational." WHO teams facilitated the medical evacuation of 33 Palestinians in need of critical attention and "over a 100 companions," and the briefing noted that more than 16,500 patients require medical care outside Gaza.
The UN also said agencies are operating nearly 350 temporary learning spaces across 64 shelters, providing in-person learning for more than 47,000 children, while urging for safe, expedited evacuation routes and unimpeded humanitarian access.
In response to a question from Duzaric Mona about wastewater and babies' access to formula, the spokesperson said wastewater and hygiene are part of the humanitarian approach but that some necessary equipment has not been allowed in; on baby formula specifically the spokesperson said they had "no specific update" and suggested checking with WHO for details.
Next steps: the UN reiterated calls for immediate, safe humanitarian access, expedited medical evacuations where needed, and continued coordination with WHO and other partners to prioritize children and patients needing care outside Gaza.
