Blue Lake — The Arts and Heritage Commission on Nov. 10 discussed the status of a proposed city logo and debated artificial-intelligence use in submitted artwork, agreeing to recommend a disclosure requirement for AI-assisted designs.
On the logo, commissioners said the current design is already appearing around town and suggested exploring limited color variations and seasonal/sub-seal options rather than replacing the design outright. Staff noted the City Council intended the commission to review colors and provide input prior to mass adoption.
On AI use, commissioners debated a blanket ban versus case-by-case review. The group coalesced around a narrower recommendation: require disclosure of AI usage on submissions to Arts and Heritage or City Council and judge acceptability case-by-case. One commissioner phrased the proposed guideline as, "AI use needs to be disclosed, and we'll decide on a case by case basis whether or not we feel it's acceptable." Commissioners said the disclosure would be required on any solicited art or graphics submissions.
