The North Reading School Committee reviewed a November budget report, approved routine student activity accounts and accepted a small donation, and heard staffing updates.
Budget update: The finance director reported there are no new concerning trends in the November report and said the district successfully budgeted for several out‑of‑district placements that arose last year. He noted the district met the extraordinary threshold last fiscal year and received an additional $143,000, which had to be spent by June 30.
Student activity accounts and donation: The committee approved the certified list of active student activity accounts for fiscal 2026 (covering activity July 1–Sept 30) by unanimous vote. The committee also voted to accept with gratitude a $512 donation from Robert Romeo to be used for girls basketball shooting shirts.
Staffing: Administration announced new hires: Blaine Wiley, paraprofessional for special education at Hood School, and Jose Gonzalez, second‑shift custodian; the committee was also informed that paraprofessional Patty Petrosino left the district.
What’s next: Administration will continue to monitor payroll and special‑education tuition accounts and will report back as the FY27 budget process advances.
