DDA director outlines holiday spectacular, branding survey and vendor software plans

Kim Rivera, director of South Lyon’s Downtown Development Authority, told the council the downtown is preparing a full day of family activities on Dec. 6 — a Holiday Spectacular that will include a candy-cane hunt, holiday craft shopping at the high school, live ice carving, historical village tours, horse-drawn carriage rides, a petting zoo, live performers and a tree-lighting ceremony.
“So far, we have 379 people who've responded to the branding survey,” Rivera said, noting the responses will inform promotion and merchant outreach. Rivera said sponsorship opportunities remain available and that DDA committee meetings will continue on regular monthly schedules.
Rivera also described a planned first annual holiday home-decorating contest open to any South Lyon resident. Finalists will be narrowed by a people’s-choice round and then judged; residents may nominate themselves or, with permission, nominate other homes. Council members asked about eligibility and submission logistics; Rivera said entrants will submit name, address, email and photos to the DDA for consideration.
On market logistics, Rivera said she had a demonstration of vendor-management software intended to let farmers‑market vendors apply, pay and reserve booths online and assist promotion. Council members supported moving the program forward and requested DDA to share details on the city website.
Next steps: DDA public meetings on the annual report are scheduled for Dec. 17 (10 a.m.) and Dec. 18 (5 p.m.) at City Hall, and Rivera said the DDA will publicize contest and event details on the city website and local press.
