South Lyon certifies election results; mayor and three council members sworn in, volunteer honored

South Lyon’s newly certified November election cleared the way for a swearing-in ceremony and routine council actions at a city council meeting held at South Lyon City Hall. Mayor Steve Kennedy and three incoming council members — Alex Hansen, Lisa Popa and Michael Squires — took the oath of office before the council.

The meeting opened with the mayor noting the election certification and thanking election inspectors, office staff and the Department of Public Works. The council recorded roughly 26% voter turnout for the local election. City Clerk Dayton then reported roll call showed all members present and the council approved the minutes from its Nov. 10, 2025 meeting by voice vote.

After the oaths, Kennedy presented the Dana Johnson Volunteer of the Year proclamation to Linda Ross, recognizing her long service in local volunteer roles, including as co‑chair of the decode aids committee and president of the South Lyon Area Historical Society. Ross accepted the honor, saying she was “humbled and honored to accept this special award in honor of Dana.”

The council also handled routine business: it removed a camera‑related item from the consent agenda (to be considered later as new business), approved the consent agenda as amended, and confirmed there would be no closed session at the end of the meeting.

The meeting continued with departmental reports and a presentation on the city manager recruitment process, which Walsh Municipal Services summarized for the council.
