The Town of North Brookfield Board of Health voted by voice to accept an RDP/SMRP grant contract that includes a $6,000 award for drop-off equipment, and discussed operational matters ranging from transfer-station staffing to website updates at its Nov. 19 meeting.
A board member moved to accept the grant contract and the board voiced approval. The packet included contract and checklist language; the board agreed to sign and return the documents to receive funds and noted compliance requirements cited in the award materials.
Board members also reviewed municipal operations at the transfer station — staffing levels, an off‑site monitor and the possibility of reposting the manager position. The board discussed hourly pay, low total hours available for the job, and the prospect of asking the select board for additional resources if the position remains hard to fill.
Meeting participants recapped the recent hazardous‑waste collection day, noting roughly 158 cars processed and discussion about whether to extend hours or run multiple events to increase capacity. Members also discussed better public messaging about latex paint (nonhazardous when dried) after several residents brought paint in expecting disposal.
Staff said the town website will be revamped and asked board members to review their page to remove outdated items and to provide photos or content they want featured. The board reviewed timeline expectations for permit renewals, transfer-station sticker mailings and the practical steps for consolidating several versions of permit forms in the office.
On regulatory business beyond the food‑collaborative discussion, members briefly reviewed email reports from the Cannabis Control Commission about inspections at a local grow facility; board staff characterized those items as informational and noted state oversight.
No further formal votes were recorded beyond the grant acceptance and the motion to adjourn. The board scheduled follow-up work (contract signatures, variance-proposal drafting for the food collaborative and coordination with regional officials) and adjourned the meeting.
