The Sequim City Council on Monday opened a public hearing and voted to adopt the City Manager—s proposed 2026 budget, which staff said is largely unchanged from the version submitted in September.
City finance staff member Sue told council the figures before them are the same the council reviewed previously and said, "We are hoping to get this thing adopted tonight." Councilors asked whether a later decision on a separate item — funding for the Shipley Center — would require revisiting the budget. Sue replied that if council later chose to allocate an additional $5,000 to the Shipley Center, staff would "simply find that $5,000 in another line item so that the numbers don't change," adding there is always the option of a budget amendment.
Adoption of the budget came after the public hearing and passed on a council motion. Council did not receive public comment on the budget and staff said there were no substantive numeric changes since September. The action authorizes city staff to proceed under the adopted spending plan; any later, specific reallocations would be reflected either by intra-budget transfers or a formal amendment.
City staff said the digital budget book remains available for council and public review and thanked departmental staff for submitting what staff described as "reasonable budgets." The council's adoption completes the city's formal approval step for the 2026 spending plan; staff will implement the document and bring any required amendments back to the council for formal action.
