Working group identifies training, record‑transfer and reintegration fixes for school violence data sharing

Staff from the Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice and the Juvenile Justice Oversight Committee presented results from a working group convened to examine how schools and youth‑serving agencies share data about behavioral incidents and reintegration.
The group reviewed statutory language, USBE rules and the various data systems LEAs and the state use, and identified gaps in training, student record transfer protocols and reintegration plans when youth return to school after behavioral incidents. Staff said the group recommends targeted statutory clarifications and administrative rule changes to standardize what data is transferred, how cumulative files are handled, and how reintegration plans are recorded and used by receiving schools.
Committee members asked to receive the full set of recommendations and the staff said the presentation and materials will be made available in the meeting packet. No immediate legislative action was taken at the meeting.
