El Paso County’s Commissioners Court on Nov. 24 adopted a resolution declaring November 2025 Diabetes Awareness Month and recognized the El Paso Center for Diabetes, the Diabetes Alliance, and the Paso del Norte Health Foundation for their role in regional prevention and care.
The resolution cites an estimated 97,000 El Pasoans living with diabetes and an estimated 25,000 undiagnosed, and it lists local alliance members including El Paso Children’s Hospital, UTEP, New Mexico State University, and Texas Tech University Health Science Center. County officials and partners described expanded services at the El Paso Center for Diabetes’ new Montana facility, including free A1C screenings, diabetes self-management education, medical nutrition therapy, and special programming for type 1 youth.
Speakers from the Paso del Norte Health Foundation and the El Paso Center for Diabetes emphasized prevention, outreach to Hispanic communities that have elevated diabetes risk, and free type 1 camps for children and teens. Community partners including Amistad and Project Vida highlighted inclusive grant programs and partnerships that have expanded reach to people with disabilities and other high-risk groups.
Commissioners praised the cross-border, regional approach and encouraged residents to use the diabetesnowwhat.org resource cited in the resolution. The motion to adopt the resolution carried.
