Macomb Township’s Parks and Recreation items on Nov. 25 included a contract extension for concessions in Macomb Corners Park and approval of a gabled shelter purchase for the rec center.

Parks staff requested a one‑time extension of the concession contract with Scoop and Twist. The original contract, awarded in March 2023 for three years, included a two‑year extension by mutual consent; parks staff recommended exercising that extension. The board approved the extension unanimously. Trustees asked whether the concession fee had increased with inflation; parks staff said the fee has remained unchanged for several years and that the arrangement serves youth groups and community events rather than generating significant revenue.

Parks staff also requested approval to purchase a gabled shelter awning for the rec center’s west entrance from Midstates Recreation for $100,852. Staff said the work completes an existing project to convert a back entrance used for elections and special events into a functional, well‑lit access point; concrete and wiring work remain separate items. The board approved the purchase unanimously and discussed a target installation deadline of May 1 ahead of the primary election.

Next steps: Parks staff will finalize procurement and schedule installation to meet the May election deadline; additional electrical work and signage are planned.
