A county official proposed a motion requiring the claim 'description' field be filled in next to each expense so the public can better see where money is spent. Presenters said the field exists but is completed only about 10 percent of the time. The motion — including a caveat that the change work with the county’s software — was seconded and adopted by voice vote.
The board directed the auditor, IT staff and executive secretary to work together to assess whether the county’s claims software can require or make it easier to collect descriptive information and to report back as needed. No timeline was mandated in the meeting beyond staff follow-up.
