Largo swears in new officers; proclaims October Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Fire Prevention Week

During the ceremony city staff introduced newly promoted and hired officers, including Officer Jamie Brazzo and others, and family members participated in traditional pinning. New officers and select promotees repeated the oath of office administered at the meeting.
Mayor Woody Brown proclaimed October 2025 as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month for the City of Largo. Kelsey Wallace, introduced as the newest victim advocate with the Largo Police Department, said the proclamation aims to raise awareness about the prevalence and impacts of intimate‑partner violence, citing statistics the department presented about lifetime and childhood exposure rates.
The commission also proclaimed Oct. 5–11 as Fire Prevention Week and heard a presentation from Largo Fire Rescue on lithium‑ion battery safety. Fire Rescue staff described outreach including a wrapped solid‑waste truck, billboards and station banners and directed residents to largo.com/takecharge for disposal and battery safety information.
No formal votes were required for the ceremonial items; the commission proceeded afterward with regular agenda business.
