The Vero Beach City Council read and approved a proclamation designating November 2025 as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and recognized the Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Association of Indian River County for its local services.
A representative of the association (name not given on the record) thanked the council and described the organization’s work: about 45 free programs countywide, approximately 3,500 people served in Indian River County and cumulative monthly touchpoints of about 14,000 per year. The representative said the association is expanding into new space of roughly 10,000 square feet to accommodate program growth.
Council members thanked the organization and asked questions about local dementia statistics and caregiver numbers; the association said there are roughly 7,000 people in the county with dementia and about 13,000 unpaid caregivers, a number they said could double by 2050. Council members praised the day‑program model for caregivers and acknowledged the nonprofit’s local support role.
Council took no policy action related to the proclamation; the session included a short photo opportunity and gratitude from council leaders.
