City of Palm Coast staff asked Flagler County commissioners Nov. 17 to pledge $500,000 to match a state appropriation request for a municipal animal shelter.
Miss Petito said the city has identified two potential US-1 sites it owns and would pledge the land; city staff prepared appropriation paperwork for Representative Greco's office and asked the county to commit $500,000 to strengthen the joint request. Petito said the county commitment would be a placeholder to be included in next year's budget if the state approves the appropriation.
Board members signaled consensus to include the pledge as a budget priority and directed staff to treat it as a placeholder during upcoming budget development; Petito said city staff would proceed with the forms with the county's tentative commitment in place.
The pledge is contingent on state funding and will be included for discussion in the December/January budget process. No formal appropriation was made during the workshop.
