Clerk of court to oversee courthouse central-receiving renovation; MOA discussed at workshop

The Flagler County Board of County Commissioners reviewed a proposed memorandum of agreement Nov. 17 that would allow the clerk of court to oversee necessary renovation work in the courthouse's central-receiving area.
Tom Bexley, the county's clerk and comptroller, told commissioners the central-receiving division on the first floor was not well designed when the courthouse was built and is now an operational encumbrance. "This particular renovation is to our central receiving department... It would expand our central receiving division, I think about 40%. It would allow for larger workspaces... and for our employees to have a much better workspace to live in," Bexley said.
Bexley said staff had obtained an estimate from a general contractor and recommended a contractor relationship rather than relying solely on internal general-services resources. He described temporary relocation plans during construction, saying staff would be moved into another county division for approximately three to four months and asked the board for its blessing to move forward.
Commissioners asked about the exact room layout, carpet options and timeline; Bexley said the contractor could be scheduled quickly and promised to provide ample notice for a ribbon-cutting when work is complete.
No formal change to the county's capital program or vote occurred during the workshop; the matter was presented ahead of the evening consent agenda for additional public and board review.
