Taylor County commissioners on Nov. 3 discussed a batch of county‑owned tax‑deeded parcels and directed staff to hold Steinhatchee properties while moving two small lots toward sale.
County staff told the board that several parcels offered in a 2019 sale drew no bids and that six parcels have now been removed from the current sale list. Staff identified Parcel 5 — described in the meeting as 2.46 acres in Steinhatchee — as one the county should retain. Staff also said Parcels 9 and 10, north of Alvin Wentworth Road off the railroad at Shady Grove, are small lots that could be marketed for sale.
The discussion covered landlocked lots (Parcel 3), potential maintenance responsibilities if the county retains city lots, and options short of sale such as swapping for mitigation credits with state or federal agencies or negotiating with the city. One commissioner noted neighbors sometimes use vacant parcels for camping and occasional cleanup is required.
