Leon County commissioners issue multiple proclamations honoring schools, hospice, businesses and volunteers

The board designated November 2025 as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month and recognized Big Bend Hospice. Amanda Gustafson, chief operating officer for Big Bend Hospice, accepted the proclamation and said it helps "spread the word about hospice and palliative care" in North Florida.
The commission honored local philanthropic efforts and school turnaround work. Commissioner Cummings presented a proclamation to Angelo and Kim Crowell for fundraising on behalf of First Tee Tallahassee; the transcript contains inconsistent dollar amounts (both $35,000 and $3,036,000 appear in different places), and county records should be consulted for the definitive figure. The board also recognized Sable Palm Elementary and Rudiger Elementary for improving to an A grade during the 2024–25 school year; principals and school board member Daryl Jones praised teachers and families for the achievement.
Other presentations included recognition of Nick's menswear on its 75th anniversary and a retirement proclamation for Brenda Williams of the Tallahassee Housing Authority. Williams said the authority had submitted an application for tax credits for approximately 120 apartments for seniors and disabled residents and asked the community to "cross your fingers and pray" as the application moves through the state lottery process.
All proclamations were accepted and the recipients addressed the commissioners; no formal policy actions were adopted in these presentations.
