Mayor Cal Sheehy said Lake Havasu City has installed a new traffic signal at the intersection of Jamaica and McCulloch and expects it to begin operating in November or early December.
The signal is part of a bundle of improvements intended to ease heavy backups near schools, Sheehy said during an on-site update. "The traffic signal up at Jamaica, McCulloch, is definitely needed," he said, noting long morning and afternoon waits for drivers and families with students traveling to the high school and to stops identified in the segment as Thunderbolt, Starline and Jamaica.
An on-site worker identified in the recording as Bill described what crews completed at the intersection: "We put in the sidewalks, new handicap ramps, the new signal, obviously. We even did some improvement to the asphalt inside the intersection, to get rid of some dips and bumps, and it should run smoothly here, hopefully, at the November, early December." The city said those changes are intended to improve traffic flow and pedestrian access during peak school periods.
Sheehy also used the segment to invite residents to the outreach event "Your City Behind the Cones," a walkthrough-style update where crews showcase recent and planned public-works projects. No formal vote or motion was recorded in the segment, and no funding figures or contract identifiers were provided.
The city did not specify an exact activation date for the signal beyond "November, early December." Officials did not list funding sources, the contractor name, or an exact schedule for final inspections in this segment. The update concluded with Sheehy thanking viewers for watching the on-site presentation.
