Mayor Cal Sheehy toured Site 6 with project staff to highlight upcoming improvements at the Lake Havasu City boat-launch area, saying the upgrades will benefit anglers and other boaters who use the city’s no-cost launch.
Project staff member Jason said he became involved about a year after the Site 6 boat ramp was completed and that the city secured $1,600,000 in Harper grama fund dollars to advance the next phase of work. “We had these dollars made available through the Harper grama fund of 1,600,000.0,” he said, and staff issued an RFP to select a contractor under the capital improvement program.
Jason described the planned work as replacing the main walkway to the dock, replacing the dock itself and replacing seven shade structures that protect people using the dock. “The work involves replacing the main walkway that goes out to the dock and then the dock itself,” he said. He added that the selected contractor needed the ability to design docks as part of the contract requirements.
Jason said Bellingham Marine submitted a competitive bid, was awarded the contract by city council and immediately began design work. The transcript does not provide a vote tally or a contract number; those details were not specified. Mayor Sheehy said the improvements will be “amazing” for fishing enthusiasts and thanked staff for their work.
The city invited residents to attend its outreach event, 'Your City Behind the Cones,' to learn more about local projects. The project remains at the design stage following the council award; further scheduling, costs beyond the cited fund amount and a construction timeline were not provided in the presentation.
