Urbana Fire Department pins Troy Roberts as battalion chief

The Urbana City Council recognized Troy Roberts on Monday in a badge-pinning ceremony as he was promoted to battalion chief of the Urbana Fire Department.
A fire-department representative introduced Roberts, noting he began his career with the department on April 1, 1998, and has served the community for more than 26 years. The presenter said Roberts holds EMT-Advanced certification, is a certified fire investigator and serves on a regional technical rescue team; he also supports training work at the Illinois Fire Service Institute.
Roberts affirmed the oath of office and was pinned by family members who attended the ceremony. Council members and the mayor offered congratulations; the mayor directed Roberts to complete ministerial paperwork with the clerk after the ceremony.
The council then opened the meeting’s public-input period (no speakers) and proceeded with regular business.
