Staff introduced new planning team member Francisco and said the City Council last night approved "a memorandum of understanding with the city of Joliet with the Regional Transportation Authority" to pursue an equitable transit-oriented-development (ETOD) zoning package. Staff said the RTA will administer grant funds for consultant procurement and that any zoning package still requires City Council adoption before it becomes regulation.
Staff also announced a virtual second community meeting for the Interstate 80 / Des Plaines River community plan on Nov. 13 (6–7:30 p.m.) and provided the project web link: joliet.gov/i80communityplan. The meeting will include an interactive component to gather preferences for a proposed trail alignment and related design features.
A committee member noted that the River's Edge tax-credit application has been submitted and said they are "pretty pretty darn sure that we're gonna get it," pointing to the potential for substantial private investment to support downtown redevelopment and historic-building rehabilitation.
No formal council action on these items was taken at this advisory-committee meeting; staff said they will continue to update the committee as projects progress.
