The Hoist Center’s founder described the nonprofit’s season-of-giving program and asked coalition members to help collect toys, pajamas and books for children across Champaign County.
Dr. Jania Klingenberg, executive director and founder of the Hoist Center, said the organization distributed approximately $242,000 in in-kind donations last year and about $803,000 over four years. "This program is called the Blessing Bank," she said, explaining that partners across the community serve as drop-off sites and help distribute items to families in need.
Klingenberg asked for specific help for the 12-to-17 age group (the hardest to serve with donations), 3–4 entertainers per distribution cycle, translators (Spanish, French and American Sign Language) and volunteers to support events. She provided the Hoist Center website (www.hoistcenter.org) and said monetary donations can be made through GiveButter on the site.
She listed partner drop-off locations including the Urbana Park District, Urbana Neighborhood Connection Center, Dream, Village of Rantoul, Carter Foundation, Illini Radio Group, Village of Thomasborough, Urbana Police Department, Champaign Police Department and Champaign Park District. The collection period was presented as Oct. 15 through December (dates in transcript).
