Bang and Gavel Brews highlights holiday programming after tough summer

The Tinley Park Village Board on Nov. 4 spotlighted Bang and Gavel Brews’ Boat House at 17400 Oak Park Avenue, celebrating a Richard H. Driehaus Foundation award for adaptive reuse while residents and the proprietor described steps to steady revenue after a difficult summer.

Jim, a representative of Bang and Gavel Brews, said extreme heat and rain reduced beer-garden attendance and that the business has adjusted hours and programming to attract customers. “Beginning in December, we will close on Mondays and instead open on Tuesdays,” he said, adding that Tuesdays will be karaoke night, Wednesdays will be blues night, and monthly dueling-piano performances will continue. The business plans menu changes and added paid marketing to respond to public feedback, Becky O’Connor, director of marketing, said.

Multiple trustees and members of the public praised the venue’s renovation and local appeal. A resident who follows the business on social media said she was impressed by the renovation and the owner’s responsiveness to customer comments. Trustees encouraged community patronage and thanked the owners for investing in the historic building.

The spotlight also noted that the owners will accept a Driehaus Foundation award in Chicago and that the venue hosts regular live music and private events. The board’s recognition was part of the meeting’s presentation items.

The Boat House’s leaders urged residents to support the business through the holiday season with event bookings and visits; no formal action by the board was required.
