Tinley Park board remands zoning variation for Mahoney Garage back to Plan Commission

Tinley Park trustees on Nov. 18 remanded Ordinance 2025-O-039 — a requested variation for a building at 16801 Sayer Avenue known in the packet as the Mahoney Garage — to the village Plan Commission for further findings. The remand followed a staff report and an applicant request to clarify technical measurements, including how width is calculated and whether a height variance is necessary.
Trustee Tiffany, speaking for staff, said the applicant had asked that the item return to the Plan Commission "for further findings" and that both the Plan Commission and building staff agreed that additional review was appropriate. "The question before the board today is, does the board want to approve this ordinance as presented, or remand this matter back to the Plan Commission for further findings?" she said.
A trustee made a superseding motion to remand the ordinance, another trustee seconded it, and the board approved the motion by roll call, which the clerk recorded as carrying. As a result, the original motion to proceed with the ordinance died by supersession.
The remand leaves the matter to the Plan Commission to reexamine measurement methods and related technical issues before returning a recommendation to the board. No changes to property rights or construction were recorded at the Nov. 18 meeting; the board did not adopt the ordinance.
