Escambia County marine resources manager invites public to waterways symposium in Gulf Breeze

Robert Turpin, Escambia County’s marine resources manager, told an unidentified committee on Nov. 4 that the Escambia County marine advisory meeting will include a special symposium on local waterways.
Turpin said the symposium will be Monday at 5:30 p.m. at 3363 West Park Place in Gulf Breeze and will cover access issues, fisheries issues, water quality issues and waterway safety issues, and will include discussion of artificial reefs. "We're looking at access issues, fisheries issues, water quality issues, and waterway safety issues," Turpin said. He said speakers will include representatives from FWC Fisheries and water quality staff and that the symposium will address conditions and access issues in Pensacola Bay, East Bay and Blackwater Bay as well as surrounding gulfs and the watershed.
Turpin encouraged people with an interest in those topics to attend and offered to send the meeting invitation to committee staff so it could be shared. The announcement reiterated the event’s focus on both local waterways and related watershed and fisheries topics; Turpin referenced the estuary program's "state of the bay" report card as background for the broader conversation.
Turpin’s remarks were made during a brief public-comment portion of the meeting after committee members said staff and engineering representatives were not present. There was no formal action taken on the symposium announcement at the meeting.
