County gets final punch‑list update on new jail buildings; tentative inmate move and open house set for January

County staff and the construction team updated commissioners on the county jail expansion and renovation project. Paul Fernandez of AJAX Builders described interior finishes and systems testing for Unit C and reported that Building A's pre‑engineered metal building structure is erected and nearing completion aside from two garage doors.
"We're in the process of doing our final inspection here in the next few days so that we get our certificate of occupancy," Fernandez said, and his partner reported that furniture and detention equipment installation are complete or nearly complete in many areas.
County staff said the sheriff tentatively plans an open house on Jan. 19 and that occupancy and inmate transfers are likely to occur in January, after final inspections and turnover. Staff also discussed a separate roofing option for the Alderman Building and said savings from the SOE renovation project will be used to fund that roof replacement rather than requesting new appropriations.
Commissioners asked about sequencing, fire‑safety partition walls, final punch‑list items and responsibility for interior partition work; staff said facilities maintenance will perform the interior partition walls once the construction contractor clears the space and the sheriff and fire rescue finalize occupancy plans.
No formal action was required; the board received the monthly update and staff will return with procurement paperwork for any remaining work authorizations.
