FDOT outlines resurfacing, bridge and local road projects for Levy County in draft five-year plan

Florida Department of Transportation planners presented a tentative five-year work program update to the Levy County Board of County Commissioners, identifying state and local projects that DOT has programmed to move toward construction over fiscal years 2027–2031.
Brian Brooker of FDOT's Lake City planning office said notable state-road projects include resurfacing on State Road 320 from Manatee Springs State Park to U.S. 19 and on U.S. 19 from SR 121 to SR 24 near Otter Creek, with an environmental enhancement for a wildlife crossing at Bullfrog Creek. He also said fiscal-year 2029 includes a bridge deck replacement project on State Road 24 in Cedar Key.
For local roads, he cited resurfacing of County Road 337 (from CR 336 to SR 121) programmed for FY27 and a resurfacing and lane-widening project on County Road 347 from SR 24 up to the Lower Suwannee River Preserve programmed for FY29. DOT staff also mentioned an ongoing sidewalk project on County Road 40 (TA program) and resurfacing/lanework on County Road 346.
Brooker said the department held its annual tentative work program public hearing on Oct. 21 and will accept public comment through Nov. 20; the tentative program is then reviewed by the Florida Legislature and the governor before the secretary adopts the program on July 1, 2026. "Public comment will be accepted through November 20, and you can do that online," Brooker said.
Commissioners asked questions about specific intersections and safety projects, including the Lebanon Station intersection at U.S. 19 and SR 121 where construction activity has recently started. DOT staff confirmed the Lebanon Station safety improvement project had construction funding previously programmed and offered additional local right-of-way funding for intersection safety improvements where needed.
The presentation included application windows for several local funding programs (Safe Routes to School, Transportation Alternatives and other local solicitation programs) and a local resource guide to the project development process at FDOT.
Next steps: County residents may file comments on DOT's tentative work program through Nov. 20 via the department's online portal; staff and DOT will continue local coordination on project scheduling and procurement.
