At its Dec. 1 meeting, the Tippecanoe County Board of Commissioners approved several routine procurement, grant and contract items and denied a Lafayette-initiated gas station amendment.
Highway staff reported three fuel bids; Atlantic Petroleum was disqualified for failing to provide a bid bond and Newton Oil was the low bidder with a projected first-year cost of $553,575. The board voted to award the fuel contract to Newton Oil and required a 5% surety bond.
For two tandem dump trucks, staff said they received three proposals and that lifecycle cost and projected maintenance favored McMahon Volvo; staff presented a base purchase price for the two trucks and recommended awarding the contract to McMahon Truck Center with a 5% surety bond. The board approved that award.
Other approvals included a Title IV-E cooperative agreement for county reimbursement related to CHINS/TPR cases (staff reported a balance of $91,958.50 to date and an estimated annual receipt of about $26,000–$27,000) and permission for youth services to apply for JDAI funding up to $95,000 for fiscal year 2027. The board also approved professional services MOUs for mediation in Superior Court 3 and circuit court at a rate of $100 per hour for Louisa M. White, Austin Harris and Colin Newman.
Separately, staff presented an amendment related to gas stations (referred to in the agenda as Ordinance 20 25 41), described as city-initiated; the board declined that amendment by a 3-to-0 vote. The Southside Landfill item was pulled until the next meeting, and the Nelson Minor Subdivision application was withdrawn from the agenda.
All listed procurement, grant and contract motions passed by voice vote where recorded; the procurement awards required surety bonds as described by staff.
