Alma City’s commission voted unanimously to approve an amended industrial facilities tax exemption application for Avalon Tahoe Manufacturing’s Building B expansion and forward the application to the state tax commission for final approval.
The company representative told the commission the project, originally approved in February, had grown to include offices, quality-control space, employee restrooms and a break room, pushing total project costs to just over $2,000,000 — an increase of about $800,000 from the previously approved scope. The representative said Avalon employs about 450 full‑time-equivalent workers overall, expects to retain 100 existing jobs at Building B and create roughly 15 new positions.
Commissioners asked about a plant tour and production rates; the company representative said the facility is already operating and invited commissioners to schedule a tour. Frank Marshall and Jim Blick were present for the company during the hearing.
Commission approval was by voice vote; the commission opened the hearing, heard no public comment, and then adopted the resolution to approve the amended application.
The commission’s action authorizes staff to transmit the approved amended application to the state tax commission for its final review and action. No local tax-exemption amounts or final state determinations were set by the commission at the meeting.
