County health officials reported several program and operational items to the board. Health staff said they are applying for an Indiana Department of Health injury prevention grant worth $10,000 to fund car‑seat safety classes, certified car‑seat technicians and safe‑sleep supplies; a motion to allow staff to apply for the grant was made and approved.
Officials also said an STI testing contract with Vanderburgh County is fully executed and in effect Nov. 1; county staff plan to begin testing in the jail and other settings and hope to eventually provide services in‑house, which would require small facility renovations (notably adding a bathroom in a nurse’s office). Commissioners authorized purchasing staff to solicit bids for the bathroom renovation and approved adding a panic‑button installation where needed.
Separately, health staff presented a proposed NIMS (inspection/records) software implementation to consolidate vital records, pool and food inspection data and host those records offsite. Staff estimated implementation and records conversion costs at about $25,000 (split roughly $12,000 for implementation/vital records conversion and about $13,113.60 for iPools) and noted an annual hosting/maintenance fee thereafter; they proposed using existing COAG funds to cover the one‑time implementation.
Commissioners discussed contracts, procurement rules for public works and the need for clear contracts; for the items above the board approved the grant application and authorized solicitation of RFPs for renovation work, while further NIMS contracting was discussed pending finalized contract language.
