Warrick County adopts centralized social-media policy placing oversight with IT administrator

The Warrick County Board of Commissioners adopted a county-wide social-media policy designed to centralize creation and management of official accounts and to ensure recordkeeping compliance under Indiana law.

A county staff member (speaker 10) explained the policy’s intent: the IT administrator will create and manage county social-media accounts, grant account creation rights to department heads as appropriate, request credentials for existing county accounts, and maintain records of social-media posts to satisfy state retention obligations. “So the idea of this policy is to bring it under somewhat one umbrella,” the staff member said, explaining the policy aims to prevent unofficial accounts from speaking on behalf of the county and to maintain institutional continuity during staff turnover.

Commissioners discussed administrative workload and suggested periodic credential checks; one commissioner recommended the IT supervisor log in every 30 days to confirm credential integrity. A motion to adopt the policy carried by voice vote. Staff said the policy will help centralize accounts and support consistent public communications and record retention.
