Warrick County commissioners approve design for animal-control facility addition

Consultant Darren Morley presented a floor plan for a small remodel and a 1,660-square-foot addition to the Warrick County animal-control facility and commissioners voted to move the design forward to bid.
Morley told the board the project would add dedicated adoption and exam/procedure space, separate healthy, sick and bite-animal areas, additional office space and new plumbing fixtures to ease cleaning. “We are proposing a minor renovation...and the new addition would be adding 1,660 square feet,” Morley said during the presentation.
Sherry Severs, county acquisition administrator, said the GO bond committee and animal-control leadership had reviewed the plan and that bidding could begin as early as February if work starts now. Commissioners discussed capacity changes (Morley described 17 block-wall kennels plus stacked small-dog crates) and agreed the design would improve animal care and staff workflows.
A motion to approve advancing the design was made and carried by voice vote; the board did not approve construction funding at this meeting. The next step is finalizing bid documents and a schedule for advertising the project. No construction contract or total project budget was approved at the Nov. 24 meeting.
