Scott County attorney Zach says he will not seek contract renewal, offers transition support

Zach said the decision was personal and not the result of any particular dispute; he offered to remain in place through Dec. 31 to turn over documentation and help onboard a successor.
Commissioners thanked Zach for his service, praised his legal work and said his departure will require an active search to maintain continuity. Several commissioners commented that Zach had been effective in guiding the board through challenging decisions and that replacing his institutional knowledge will be difficult.
Zach asked the board to begin the recruitment process promptly; staff and commissioners agreed to start arranging interviews so the county can fill the role before year-end.
Quote: "I just, Since you already know Ethics rules also... I just I've thought about this decision... I'm not gonna be able to continue into the next year," Zach said, explaining his decision and offering transition assistance.
