Warrick County Council approves a slate of appropriations for courts, sheriff, parks and 911 expenses

The Warrick County Council approved multiple appropriations and fund transfers at its regular meeting, including requests to cover courthouse utilities, legal services, juvenile detention contracts and several sheriff and parks expenses.

Among the votes, the council approved the minutes from the Oct. 7 regular meeting and Oct. 7 and Oct. 21 public hearings after amendments were noted. Judge Granger of the Warrick Circuit Court requested a reduced additional appropriation; council members approved the court request to cover needs through the end of the year.

County Administrator Debbie Bennett Steers told the council the courthouse utilities account had a $775.33 balance but outstanding invoices totaling $19,536.26; the council approved a $25,000 appropriation to pay current bills. Steers also requested $60,000 for legal services to address unexpected bills, including a discrimination-related attorney expense and depositions tied to a radon case; the legal-services appropriation passed on a recorded vote (the meeting recorded a 4-1 result with two abstentions noted). A separate appropriation for juvenile detention contract payments of roughly $17,000 was approved unanimously.

The council also approved smaller, targeted requests: a $2,000 spending-down appropriation for the sheriff's K9 fund and a parks department request to add $10,500 to replace an aging F-150 used in park operations. Administrator Steers requested carrying forward and paying outstanding 911-related contract-service invoices; she listed a total outstanding for several 911 and IT-related contracts at roughly $427,147.12, and the council approved the payments.

Several routine payroll and reimbursement items were approved, including sell-back payouts for departing and resigned sheriff's-office employees and other line-item transfers.
