Anacortes planning department to keep permit center closed Fridays as staff levels thin; development regulations headed to council
Summary
Director John Coleman told the Planning Commission the city will keep the permit center closed on Fridays for the foreseeable future because of staffing reductions; he also said proposed development regulations and comprehensive plan items are scheduled for the City Council agenda on Nov. 24 (with a possible Nov. 17 appearance).

John Coleman, Director of Planning, Community and Economic Development, briefed the commission on recent and upcoming items and staffing changes.
Coleman said the City Council spent about 90 minutes discussing proposed development regulations and comprehensive plan recommendations and that staff will continue deliberations with the council; both the comprehensive plan and development regulations are scheduled for the council agenda on Nov. 24, with a possible appearance on Nov. 17 if time allows.
Coleman also addressed staffing: "You've probably read the paper about, the city losing laying off people," he said, and told commissioners the reduction affected permit review. As a result, Coleman said the permit center will remain closed on Fridays for the foreseeable future because staffing is thin, particularly on that day. He asked commissioners if there were questions and noted no further questions were raised at the meeting.
The update noted no additional departmental actions at the meeting and the commission moved on to closing items.
