Mayor Javier Figueroa and staff recognized University Place’s communications team for winning multiple awards at the National Association of Telecommunications Officials and Advisors competition. The mayor noted the city’s entries were selected from roughly 900 submissions and the city’s team brought home 14 awards across categories ranging from honors to awards of distinction and excellence.
Mayor Figueroa and staff called out specific winning projects, including the "Forever Friends" video, the UP Garden Tour featuring Alice's Garden, and the Color It Up Art Contest that involved local students from Curtis High School, Curtis Junior High and Charles Wright Academy. Communications staff named in the meeting included Linda Sees, Amanda Gibler and David Kellman (PC TV).
City Manager Steve Segg and councilmembers also reviewed community events: the Salted Rim ribbon cutting scheduled for Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. and the annual Christmas tree lighting at Market Square with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. and the tree lighting at 6:00 p.m. Councilmembers praised staff and volunteers for community programs during the season, including Thanksgiving meal distributions and a new We Care Club cleanup program initiated with Fircrest Kiwanis.
Councilmembers said the awards reflect national recognition for local work and reiterated appreciation for staff and volunteers as the city moved into the holiday season.
