The Atlanta City Council on Dec. 1 voted to authorize two charitable donations aimed at food security and housing assistance.
Donation to Goodr: The council approved a donation to the Goodr Foundation to continue a free grocery program at the William Walker Recreation Center, authorizing the chief financial officer to make payments not to exceed $135,000. The sponsor amended the record to show the recipient as the Goodr Foundation and the council voted unanimously to adopt the item.
Urban League donation and housing help center: Separately, the council approved a donation of up to $500,000 to the Urban League of Greater Atlanta (ULGA) to continue the City’s direct-assistance partnership with ULGA, which has served tenants referred by the Housing Help Center. During debate, Housing Help Center staff explained that ULGA holds the funds as fiduciary and issues payments to landlords on behalf of eligible households; staff said a prior tranche of $600,000 had supported roughly 200 households and that administrative/fiduciary fees had been charged (staff estimated about $100,000 across prior tranches). Several councilmembers pressed for clearer breakdowns of administrative fees, staffing levels in the Housing Help Center and long-term funding strategies; administration staff agreed to provide follow-up briefings and a joint report within 90 days as requested in the resolution.
