The Alamance County Board of Commissioners completed its organizational business, electing leadership, adopting a meeting calendar and approving a budget calendar for fiscal year 26–27.

Commissioners nominated and voted to elect Kelly Allen as chair and Steve Carter as vice chair during the meeting’s organizational segment. Following the vote Allen took the gavel and opened the meeting as chair.

The board adopted the 2026 schedule of regular meetings after staff described a change to split monthly meetings into a work session and a business meeting. Commissioners debated removing the Jan. 5 regular meeting because the subsequent meeting would fall on Martin Luther King Jr. Day; the board voted to adopt the schedule with the Jan. 5 meeting removed.

Staff also presented a proposed FY 26–27 budget calendar designed to move a public hearing closer to the budget presentation (the public hearing was proposed for June 1 with adoption on June 15); the board moved and approved the budget calendar unanimously.

During the manager’s report the board recognized the county tax administrator, Bridal Fowler, who received a distinguished award from the North Carolina Association of Assessing Officers. The board also received a presentation from Tracy Grazer, president of Impact Alamance, describing about 10 years of investments in county projects and partnerships that the presenter said totaled more than $3,000,000 in combined investments and grant-writing assistance.

These organizational decisions set the county’s calendar and leadership for the coming year and direct staff to move forward on budget and procedural items outlined in staff presentations.
