City staff presented details for several December events at the meeting.
Program Coordinator Jimmy Wong said the annual tree-lighting will be Thursday, Dec. 4 at 6:00 PM at the Esherstynary Community Center (venue name quoted from the transcript; spelling not verified). He thanked In-N-Out for donating hot chocolate (450 cups) and noted performers including Hawaiian dancers, senior-center carolers and a joint choir from Baldwin Park and Sierra Vista High School. Wong said staff will use the gymnasium and adjacent celebration hall, add temporary bleachers, and route exits to meet safety concerns.
Wong also outlined the Santa Pajama Party on Friday, Dec. 12 at Susan Rubio Zocalo Park starting at 5:00 PM with an outdoor movie, Santa photos and donated refreshments; Golden Crest will provide pizza while supplies last.
Program Supervisor April Rojo described the holiday parade and Winterfest on Saturday, Dec. 6 with check-in at 8:30 AM, parade kickoff around 9:45 AM and a dignitary welcome at 8:30 AM. This year’s grand marshal is Michelle Trujillo, a meteorologist with Telemundo 52. Rojo said awards will follow the parade and the event will include live reindeer and a petting zoo; the skating rink used in prior years has been removed.
Staff answered logistics questions from commissioners about movie screens (one screen planned) and crowd routing, reiterated age limits for snow-play (typically 12 and under) and said they would consider additional screens and seating for future events.
What happens next: staff will finalize staging and volunteer assignments; commissioners were invited to help decorate the day before the parade.
