At its Dec. 1 meeting the Miami Lakes Public Safety Committee previewed and approved a short holiday-safety public-service announcement produced for the town and heard crime‑trend data from Deputy Amador.
Deputy Amador told the committee the town recorded no homicides last year and none this year. He reported robberies fell from four to two, auto thefts from 73 to 39, commercial burglaries from four to one and residential burglaries from five to one; vehicle burglaries decreased from 106 to 80. Amador emphasized that many auto thefts resulted from unlocked cars and keys left inside and urged residents to secure vehicles and packages.
The committee viewed a short video produced by Ganni (presented by Danny) that highlights package safety, the "Grinchbusters" patrol, home‑watch suggestions and holiday fire safety. Members discussed tone and whether department logos should appear on the video; staff said logos require departmental approvals. The committee moved that staff determine whether the town and departmental logos can be included and, if approval is granted, to proceed without returning for another vote.
Committee members then moved and approved payment of an additional invoice of $350 to cover the video's production costs. The committee also discussed distribution plans (social media platforms including Instagram and YouTube) and asked staff to include mailbox watch instructions in the PSA.
The committee recorded the presentation as approved and directed staff to complete logo approvals and post the PSA once administrative signoffs are received.
