Tippecanoe County commissioners handled routine business and several procurement and agreement actions during their Dec. 1 meeting.
The board approved minutes from the Nov. 17 regular meeting and approved accounts payable (claims dated 11/19/2025–12/01/2025) and payroll dated 11/21/2025 by voice vote.
Highway staff recommended awarding the county’s fuel contract to Newton Oil Company, which was the low bidder after Atlantic Petroleum was disqualified for failing to provide a required bid bond; staff estimated a first‑year projected cost of $553,575 and recommended a 5% surety bond. The board approved awarding the contract.
Staff also recommended purchasing two tandem dump trucks from McMahon Truck Center (McMahon Volvo) after a 20‑year cost‑of‑ownership analysis; the base purchase price noted was $586,000 with projected 20‑year expenses of approximately $570,000; the board approved the purchase and associated surety.
County offices received approvals for agreements and grants: the board approved a cooperative Title 4E agreement with the Public Defender Commission that will provide reimbursements related to CHINS/TPR caseloads (staff reported an accrued balance of $91,958.50 and an estimated $26–27k per year reimbursement). The board authorized staff to apply for JDAI funding up to $95,000 for FY27 to support youth services programs. Commissioners also approved professional services MOUs for mediation (Louisa M. White, Austin Harris and Colin Newman) at $100 per hour.
The Southside Landfill agenda item was pulled and rescheduled for the next meeting. Reports on file (building permits) were noted and no public comment was recorded before the meeting adjourned.
Next steps: awarding departments will execute contracts and proceed with required bonding and procurement documentation; grant and agreement recipients will follow the stated reporting and reimbursement processes.
