Norwalk City staff and commissioners said on Dec. 1 that the Route 1 corridor study will be presented at a virtual public meeting on Dec. 8 and that work on a pedestrian bridge funded through grant awards is already in design.
Jim, speaking to the commission, asked members to register for the Dec. 8 virtual session (6:30–8 p.m.) to review community feedback and study results. "That bridge will be in place in 2026," Jim said, describing the city's approach to addressing sidewalk gaps on Route 1 and other corridor safety needs.
Jim also described several near-term and 2026 projects: paused winter work on sidewalk segments until spring, public meetings for Wall Street and Seaview Avenue planning, and a proposed trail-planning grant to extend the Norwalk River Bike Trail (NRBT) with lane-reduction designs and an off-road multi-use trail that would improve access to the beach.
Greg (TMP) confirmed the Route 1 presentation is scheduled for Dec. 8 and encouraged commissioners to sign up so the events team can provide the meeting link. Commissioners discussed attending the virtual meeting and sharing registration information with residents.
The commission was advised that many projects are held to seasonal construction schedules (asphalt plants pause in winter) and that design and grant applications will determine whether projects advance in 2026. Commissioners agreed to circulate meeting registration and to attend the Dec. 8 presentation.
