Summary
Superintendent presented district initiatives emphasizing student connections, recognized students of the month across Canfield schools and reviewed report-card results (district 4.5 of 5), while previewing Veterans Day events and upcoming parent-teacher conferences.
The Canfield Local superintendent used the Oct. 8 board meeting to highlight student-connection initiatives, recognize student achievers and review district report-card ratings.
During a short presentation the superintendent described Hello Week activities and kindness clubs intended to increase student connections and school safety. He noted the high school hosted a large group of students with special abilities and praised staff for organizing the event.
Mark Potts, principal of Canfield High School, introduced Olivia Weber as the high school’s October student of the month and described her academic record and extracurricular leadership. "She's truly a kind young lady," Potts said, quoting the guidance counselor. At Canfield Middle School, Judd Rubin presented Peyton McCune as the Rotary student of the month; Travis Lavery and Mike Flood presented Leighton Nelson and Sadie Zavendale at CH Campbell and Hilltop elementaries, respectively.
The superintendent reviewed the district report cards and said several buildings earned five-star ratings; the district overall scored 4.5 out of 5. He flagged a new report-card component in which the high school received a 2 out of 5 and said the district will address coding and record-keeping to improve future results.
The superintendent also reminded the community of Veterans Day programming across district buildings (high school program scheduled for Friday, Nov. 7 at 8 a.m.) and parent-teacher conferences the following evening.
The district presented the student recognitions in person and the board thanked students, families and staff for their work.
