The City of Salinas Housing and Land Use Committee voted unanimously to adopt a 2026 calendar that shifts the panel from biweekly to monthly meetings on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m.
Planning manager Vincent Montgomery presented the calendar (item ID 25-506), saying the change is intended to improve efficiency, allow more time for staff reports and better align meeting dates with state and federal submission requirements. "The proposed calendar provides a clear and efficient flexible framework for 2026," Montgomery said during the presentation.
Committee members asked clarifying questions about coordination and timing, and staff confirmed the dates are intended to align with regulatory deadlines while allowing the committee to call special or additional meetings under the Brown Act if urgent issues arise. Chair Barajas moved to approve the calendar and Council member Salazar seconded the motion; the clerk recorded affirmative votes by Council member Sandoval, Council member Salazar and Chair Barajas. The motion carried.
The calendar adoption is procedural: it establishes the committee's regular meeting cadence for 2026 and does not itself change policy. Staff will implement the schedule and can add or reschedule meetings as needed to respond to time-sensitive matters or statutory filing windows.
Action taken: Adoption of 2026 Housing and Land Use Committee calendar (ID 25-506).
