Preliminary state accountability data shows small gains; report card to be posted online

Marcus Vandiver, who presented the accountability overview, told the State Board of Education the department's preliminary federal and state reporting shows improvements in nearly every indicator and an overall composite increase from 85 to 87.
Vandiver said growth was the lone indicator that did not increase, falling short by 0.01 point. "We have improved in every indicator, except for growth, and we're off by a hundredth of a point," he said. He described improved counts of A and B rated schools and declines in lower letter grades, and said the state-level composite and district- and school-level data would be posted publicly that afternoon.
When asked where to find the data, Vandiver directed board members to the department's site and a reports page (alabamachiefs.org under reports and data) and offered to provide district-specific extracts for board packets where file size prevented attaching the full dataset. The board discussed plans to recognize top-performing and most-improved districts at a winter meeting and noted timing to invite legislators to participate.
The board did not take votes during the presentation; departmental staff said they will release the data publicly and follow up with recognition planning in the months ahead.
