The Sumner‑Bonney Lake School District board voted on multiple administrative items after a detailed capital‑projects briefing at its Oct. 21 meeting.
Marina Tanay, introduced as the district's director of capital projects, briefed the board on several active and planned construction efforts. She told the board the district had advertised for qualifications and "received 6 general contractors putting in their SOQs for Bonney Lake High School expansion and 5 for the Sumner High School project," and that the district expects to review submittals and bring a recommendation to the board at the November meeting. Tanay said the district also has filed an application for Tehaleh Heights expansion and is advancing schematic and design development for Sumner High phase 2, a new middle school at Tehaleh Heights and site work at Donald Eisman and Daffodil Valley fields. She described a "mini pitch" (a small enclosed soccer field) and an outdoor learning garden planned for Daffodil Valley, and noted ongoing energy‑efficiency lighting conversions.
After the presentation the board approved a series of resolutions and agreements as recommended by administration. Items passed by voice vote included:
• Resolution 02/25‑26 (signature authorization) to rescind a previous authorization and designate persons authorized to sign checks for the district; the motion passed (voice vote recorded as 'Aye').
• Resolution 03/25‑26 (purchase orders authorization) to rescind previous authorization and allow designated persons to sign purchase orders on behalf of the district; approved by voice vote.
• Resolution 04/25‑26 (write off uncollectible inactive child nutrition balances) authorizing write‑offs under board policy 6060; approved by voice vote.
• Resolution 06/25‑26 engaging OAC services to provide general‑contractor construction management/advisor services for Sumner High School master plan phase 2, Bonney Lake High School expansion and Holly Heights elementary expansion; motion passed by voice vote.
The board also approved an accompanying OAC consultant services agreement during the meeting and accepted the district's five‑year Career and Technical Education plan and the 2025‑26 Perkins grant.
Board members praised the scope of work and staff effort in preparing the projects and said they look forward to contractor selection and subsequent details at the November meeting. No contract dollar amounts or vendor names were voted on during this session; Tanay said contractor statements of qualifications had been received but did not announce a selected firm at this meeting.
