The Cameron Parish Police Jury voted Dec. 1 to allow additional contract time on several North Cameron emergency operations center (EOC) projects and related generator/transformer work after jurors discussed schedule delays and legal exposure for liquidated damages.

One agenda item sought a $1,761.97 increase to a North Cameron EOC contract and 54 extra days. Jurors debated rejecting the money component while approving the extra days; after discussion about how change orders are vetted by the architect and signed by the contractor, the jury moved to allow the contract days and the motion carried.

Separately, the jury approved a 38-day extension for an EOC dovetail-anchor delay and discussed a 29-day extension tied to a transformer delay for the generator scope, with jurors noting some days had already been used and additional requests could return to future meetings. Staff explained change orders must be reviewed by the architect before being submitted to the jury.

Jurors expressed that approving change orders can affect liquidated damages exposure for the contractor; staff clarified that the jury retains the option not to pursue damages even if days are granted. The motions to allow the days and to approve the 38-day extension were moved and seconded at the meeting and recorded as carried.

Next step: staff and the architect will continue to process outstanding change orders and return any remaining requests for additional time or compensation to a future meeting.
